Articles in the Press and Media about CTMI
CPG have been challenged by some Christians – “Why have you taken your grievances to the media? Is this a good example to the world? Why can’t you forgive and leave these issues to God?”
Our answer has been fairly simple. We see exposure of false doctrine and practice as a biblical imperative. (If the Apostles had not written publicly to expose error – we would have very little of the New Testament!)
In church history, if the reformers had not gone public with their concerns, at great risk to their safety and sometimes their lives, most orthodox Christian churches would not exist today.
If it were not for publicity, would we not have many more abused boys and women by unscrupulous “priests” and “pastors”!?
Earnestly contending for God’s truth is the right thing to do – for God’s glory, the purity of His truth and the protection of families and communities.
Nevertheless, we went public in the media – only as a last resort! (Even though CTMI have a very slick and well funded, prolific, public media campaign.)
For over a year CTMI and their Durban branch – Grace Gospel Church (GGC) leaders were bombarded with concerned requests from individual families, local church leaders, a pastoral therapist and then the Concerned Parents Group. All were received with disdain, denial or no response at all (See Our first Anniversary Report in “Digging Deeper” off our home slide “More about us” https://www.ctmiconcernedparents.com/digging-deeper-our-full-history/)
We then saw an article in “You” magazine which resulted in a daughter escaping a cult in Tzaneen. We made a final appeal to CTMI leaders to respond to our questions and plainly stated that, if again, no response was forthcoming, we would have no alternative but to go public. When, after a month, there was the usual silence, we responded positively to the request of a concerned journalist who knew some of our children personally. So, in a very real sense, CTMI gave us permission to reluctantly make our concerns public!

- Carte Blanche is Africa’s leading and longest running investigative journalism TV programme. After becoming aware of all the publicity, they approached us resulting in parents, ex members, ex leaders in South Africa and Mauritius, some of our children as well as Miki Hardy being interviewed. A programme was flighted on 7 February 2010. See here for a full report on CTMI’s two hour recording of their interview which they posted for a while on their blogs. Being an analysis of two hours of dialogue, this is quite a long read!!! However, it is well worth it! We believe that this provides more insight into our allegations than anything else available.

- DSTV Channel 147 flighted a series called “OPENBARINGS” in 2018/19. This programme identified a number of “cults” in South Africa and interviewed leaders and affected members. A panel of experts then evaluated each of these groups. CTMI was identified after their researchers found Sean Semple’s thesis. (https://www.ctmiconcernedparents.com/pastoral-therapist/) Howard Silk (ex member), Keith Brown (an affected parent) and Victoria John (journalist who wrote articles exposing CTMI for Independent on Saturday and Mail and Guardian) were interviewed. CTMI leaders were invited but were unresponsive. Nevertheless, there was significant “fall out” from Mauritius and Keith Brown’s son responded shortly afterwards by cutting him off from all contact. (This despite regular contact and precious relationship with grandchildren for 9 years while being fully aware of Keith’s views on CTMI.)
